Read History with Jack 22 Rome

   There are many famous places in the world that I want to visit in the future but the most tempting of all cities and countries to me is Rome. I crave to go there because it is a historically and culturally rich city as the central city of the Roman Empire.

   In Rome, there are many sites that are worth seeing. But there are only seven days for me to explore them, I will choose the most famous ones. The Colosseum is the first on my list. It is the largest structure left from Roman antiquity. Its construction began in 72 C.E. and was officially completed in 80 C.E. Besides the Colosseum stands the Arch of Constantine. It is a triumphal arch erected by the Senate to honor the emperor after his victory at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312 C.E.

    In the Vatican, there is the Sistine Chapel. I want to feel and see Michelangelo’s artful masterpiece upon that famous ceiling. The Pantheon is the best-preserved Roman monument, because it was transformed into a church, from what was once a temple honoring all the chief deities of the Roman pagan pantheon. The Trevi Fountain is a 17^th century masterpiece, supplied with water by an old aqueduct. The Bath of Caracalla was actually more than just a public bath. It was also the sports centre as well. Lastly, the Centro Storico is the historic centre of Rome, so I want to go there too.

    I would book my tickets on the flight to Rome firstly. Then after I get there, I would go to the hotel De Russie, which is a cultural and artistic hotel. After that, I would tour one site per day so that I can have a longer time with each site. All the sites have a lot of historical, spiritual, and cultural value in them. Therefore I need to examine and feel them fully. On the seventh day, I would take the plane back.

    There are different kinds of food in Italy. The most famous being the pizza and various pasta dishes. I want to taste especially these two foods since they are most authentic in Italy, rather than in China. They must be extremely delicious.

   Rome is an extremely old city with a lot of cultural relics. It preserves a lot of humanity’s most valuable treasures. A trip to Rome can help me better understand the history and the world, as well as teach me many things that cannot be found in textbooks. I will use my heart to feel and my brain to think, and thus experience the greatness of humanity.
