Read History with Jack 11 Are We the Smartest Creature on Earth
Today, most people think that we are the most intelligent species on the planet, and no other primate cousins of ours exceed our intelligence and technology. However, in recent years, some research on other primates had shown that mental capabilities are not that far behind ours. One famous example is a gorilla called Coco.
Coco is a gorilla known for her high IQ and cognition. She gradually learned the sign language from the age of one from her instructor Francine Patterson. Coco mastered about 2000 signs and could combine them in complex ways. Moreover, she has complicated emotions. She could feel sadness and bereavement when her companion and beloved kitten, All Ball, died.
In my opinion, we are not that different from our primate cousins. We possess similar genes, we have the same ancestors, and I agree with Harari that genetic mutation can happen all the time. So in the future, one of our cousins might become as intelligent as we are. It’s unpredictable. That means that possible evolution of other primates to fully intelligent creatures may not be a far way off.
Furthermore, I don’t think humans will last long enough to see other intelligent species thrive in the world. Today, humans damage and destroy the Earth and ecosystem massively, so it will not be long before the environment will be uninhabitable. Also, aliens that are more intelligent and more technologically advanced than us might attack the Earth and settle down on Earth. Moreover, humans in the future might not even exist. The development of technology makes it possible to have super humans that I think shouldn’t be members of the Homo genus.
Humans will never tolerate any creatures that are more intelligent than us. History can give us evidence. Our Cognitive, Agricultural, and Scientific Revolutions caused many species to go extinct. Humans are not tolerable and kind.
I think that there may be intelligent creatures on Earth that went extinct long ago because of the climate, or some other aspects. Homo Sapiens’ history is too short and we have discovered too little when compared to the whole history of the Earth. Therefore, we could not make presumptions on the existence of intelligent life before us. In the universe there were innumerable amounts of galaxies so that it is absolutely possible that there is also intelligent lives in other galaxies, or in our own.
We should not think that we are the all-time smartest creature on Earth, for we know too little. So, we still need to dig deeper into our fragile Earth and the creatures that lived long before us. Anything is possible!
