Death on the Nile 2: Murder
When a person is born, he or she has some qualities that are innate. Some positive ones like sympathy, kindness, and love can help human form good connections in this world. However, some very negative ones like jealousy, avarice, selfishness, and prejudice can cause real harm, like leading one to commit murder.
Most people believe that life is really precious due to the fact that we only live once and our lives will be linked to another person’s emotions. What causes a person to take away someone’s life can be attributed to many reasons, but there are two that I think are very common.
Jealousy is a very normal bad feeling inside our heart that surges when you are envious about someone else’s power, lovers, or their money. In our novel, Jackie was very jealous of Linnet’s wealth which resulted in her murdering of Linnet. Actually, too much showing off wealth also leads Linnet to be murdered.
Avarice is another sentiment that can cause people to murder. This emotion is very common and everyone will experience it. Humans always want to get more things that are beneficial to them, or that they just want.
In my opinion, when a person just murders another person, he or she should be sentenced with the death penalty. It’s fair, one life for one life. In addition, it’s also beneficial for social progress because then fewer people will commit murder again. However, if the person murders another when the murderer is very passionate, or when the person is justifiably angry, the punishment should be not as severe. Moreover, many killings occur when the murderer doesn’t receive good education and care. In that case we should also mitigate the final sentence. Also the country needs to take care of the many children that lack education and love.
