The first time I realized there was injustice in the world 1

The first time I realized there was injustice in the world was in January. At that time our school’s 6thgrade teachers came up with a new project. They told us that each week there would be students getting a badge for embodying the five model values of our school, and they would probably be the ideal of their class during that day, on which he or she was elected. The five model values were created by Confucius and are compassion, justice, respect, wisdom, and honesty. If a student wanted to earn the badge, then he or she needed to show exceptional behaviors that emphasized these five values.

During the election of the student who would win the badge, there were many things that were unjust. The system of election was unjust. I found out that if a student only showed one value obviously, then he or she would be elected. But I thought that a student should only be elected when a student demonstrated all five values, not just one. A student might be really intelligent and show wisdom, but what if he or displayed dishonesty? Then should that student be counted as a winner? A good case in point is that recently a friend of mine got elected. He is compassionate and willing to help others in my mind. But he often makes up lies and is pretty dishonest. Should my friend then be elected as a winner?

Moreover, there is no clarification when electing. We students never know who is voting, how one is elected, the criteria from which a teacher is based on to vote and why a student is elected. That makes us always astonished as we see one of the most defected students in the 5 shared values being elected.

Furthermore, this system is definitely not democratic enough. We, students, know each other best. Only teacher electing might cause bias and injustice since they might have a preference on any students.

Last but not least, there is no more testing or checking after a student is elected. This might cause students to turn for the worse; they might think that there are no more watchful eyes around, and they do not need to camouflage.

Thus, according to the reasons above, I firmly believe that our school’s system of election needs more revision and changes. Injustice is in every system, no matter small or big, important or dispensable. We shall think logically and fix the problems, so as to make our world a better place to live.
