   Mortenson was greatly affected by Korphe’s poverty and inequality after visiting their school. Therefore, he was determined to change it.

   Mortenson’s project was to build a better school for Korphe. In Korphe, the status of men and women was not equal. Men could definitely receive a better education than women. Mortenson couldn’t bear this inequality, so he decided to allow children in Korphe to receive equivalent education by building schools that would allow both boys and girls learn identical curriculums. However, this project had to face some problems before success. For instance, if you want to create a school, then you need enough money to afford the cost of building a school. The easiest solution to this difficulty is to ask for donation by other citizens and live frugally for a long period of time in order to save enough money. In addition, recruiting teachers and students is very difficult here. Many teachers wouldn’t want to teach in Korphe because the conditions are unpleasant and the climate is terrible. Therefore, the school can recruit teachers that are ardently passionate for teaching people in need. Students are a big issue as well. Many students don’t want to go to school due to the fact that they don’t realize education’s importance. So the teachers and the parents must instill the importance of education in them.

   In my opinion, I think this is probably the best way to memorialize his sister. The previous way was to climb K2, but this education project can benefit more vulnerable people like Christa. It is a worthier cause than putting her amber necklace on the summit of K2.
