Review of Fahrenheit 451 1
Fahrenheit 451 is a famous, albeit slow starting book, with a few varied characters. Mildred and Clarisseare the first two women the book introduces us to, and they are quite distinctive people.
First, they look very different. Clarisse’s face is slender and milk-white, her eyes are dark, yet bright, seemingly full of intelligence and interest. The book does not tell us much about what Mildred’s looks, but I can imagine her as a woman with hollow eyes and pale hands. It is terrible.
Second, they treat life differently. Clarisse loves observing nature. She observes the sunrise, the morning dew, the flowers, and the dandelions. She drinks the rain droplets and uses a dandelion to touch her chin. She likes her ideas of what life should be but hates what life is in her world. In contrast, Mildred has another kind of life. Her life is boring and hollow. She commits suicide through inattention, wants another television wall even though they already have three, and she thinks that her simple play is interesting and brilliant.
Third, they treat people differently. Clarisse is enthusiastic and affable when she meets a stranger. She talks with them about something they do not know. And most importantly, she likes to communicate with people. Mildred merely communicates apathetically, treating people coldly.
Fourth, they think differently. Clarisse thinks erratically – she thinks nearly about everything, whether it is about the weather or people. She likes thinking deeply, to the core of a matter. This is unlike Mildred, who just likes watching TV and never thinks.
Last, their families are different. Clarisse’s family is full of life and laughs.Their laughter is pure happiness, their home is very lively. Mildred’s home islike a tomb, there is no laughter and no happiness at all!
In conclusion, these two characters have clear differences. They live in two different worlds, each world having its own unique features.
